Looking back through blog posts from the past couple months, it would seem like only One Teen lives at my house. The one that sews and goes to proms and models my sewn items for me and graduates. Actually, that isn't the case at all and truly there are two teens living at my house.
It's just that the Younger Teen, the Boy Teen, has chosen to take the Path of Most Resistance this past year, which hardly provides much in the way of blog fodder. I mean, really, does anyone want to see a photo of yet another letter in the mailbox addressed To The Parent Of . . . . . .sulking in one's room because "you are grounded until I say so" . . . . . or spreading rocks, mulch and weeding in the heat because "since schoolwork is such a pain, perhaps manual labor is more to your liking" . . . .
But my boy seems to be coming around, making better and more mature decisions for himself lately and even maybe a little tired of his Rebel Without a Clue personna.
Yesterday was his big 16th. I (hesitantly) offered a party - NOPE; I offered a trip to Orlando to one of the water parks -- NOPE; dinner out -- NOPE; beach party -- NOPE . . . . . he just wanted dinner at home, that I cooked cause "really, Mom, I like your food a lot better." Okay, I said, pick your menu and do you want to invite anyone? Well, maybe just S.
But maybe just S turned into a tableful of kids by the end of the day. So after sending the Teen Girl out on an 11th hour emergency "go get some more chicken" run, we had a great 16th birthday dinner party!
Even though this year has had more challenges, Mr. 16 is the first one to help me run any errand, the first to do the dreaded grocery store run, the first to help out when I need something. He's honest, family-oriented, well liked by most of his teachers, well liked by his friend's parents, intelligent, charming and funny -- oh, my, he is funny!
Hmmmm . . . . . . funny? trouble? -- could there be a connection?
Happy Birthday, My Boy! We love you and we're proud of you.
xoxoxo
What a sweet post. It sounds like in spite of the issues he's been having he's got a ton of good qualities going for him. I hope I can say all of that about my sons when they're 16. :o)

Happy Birthday to your son! What a nice compliment to pick your food over restaurant food. It looks like a nice celebration. Did you make chicken parmesan? That's one of my son's favorite dinners.
